Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PRPD)

With funding from UKAID, in collaboration with the Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJf) and implemented by Pratyasha Social Development Organization (PSUS), the “Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PRPD)” project is being carried out in the Chuadanga Sadar and Alamdanga Upazilas of Chuadanga District to ensure the rights of persons with disabilities. The following is an overview of the project:

Project Name: Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PRPD)

Donor Organization: UKAID

Total Beneficiaries: Men – 500, Women – 650, Adolescent Boys – 150, Adolescent Girls – 150, Youth – 250, Disabled Persons – 2000, Harijan – 80, Dalit – 78, Blacksmiths – 20, Potters – 25, Servants – 320, Fishermen – 100. Total: 4323.

Time Period: January 2019 to August 2022.

Overall Project Goal: To ensure the legal and social rights of disabled women and children and make institutions more responsive so that they can live dignified lives as human beings in society.

Specific Project Objectives:

  1. To make government, private, and civil society organizations more responsive in providing services to persons with disabilities in the workplace.
  2. To empower disabled women and girls to reduce violence against women.
  3. To improve the living standards and quality of life of disabled women and children.

Activity:

  • Formation of 9 DPOs
  • Organise quarterly meetings DPOS
  • Organise parent’s meeting and concealing through courtyard session
  • Youth Gathering on the Issue of Person With Disabilities-PWDs
  • Day’s observation
  • Leadership development training
  • Sensitization meeting with service providing institutions at union
  • Sensitization meeting with service-providing institutions at upazila
  • Organizing sensitization meeting with service-providing institutions (health, education, UP) – District level
  •  Consultation meeting with different stakeholders at Upazila Level
  • Consultation meeting with different stakeholders at District Level
  • Meeting with LG Bodies
  • Working with the UP Standing Committee
  • School Awareness Program on VAW
  • Meeting on Gender Equity and Disability for DPO Members
  • Establishment of an Information Service Centre and Mobile Hot Link at the District Level
  • Meeting on Develop Business Plan to train Person With Disabilities-PWDs
  • Meeting with Vocational Training Institutes to arrange skill training for disabled people
  • IGA Follow-up Meeting with Different Institutions District Level
  • Provide IGA Training in vegetable gardening, candle preparation, house-based small, Poultry, tailoring, etc.
  • Meeting with different institutions for job placement and finance

 

Output:

Output-01: Person with disabilities and their family members understand and articulate their rights and organize to deal with their issues.

Output-02: Person with disabilities is involved in the different community groups in the working areas.

Output 3: government officers are more sensitised to provide services to disabled people.

Output 4: Women are more capable to resist the VAW

Output 5: Men are more sensitive to and cooperative with women counterparts in addressing VAW.

Output 6: women are engaged in different IGA or linked with various jobs

Output 7: Women with disability have access to financial support from government and non-government schemes and micro credit

 

Outcomes:

  1. i) Government, non-government, and civil society organizations have become more responsive towards providing services to persons with disabilities (in the working area);
  2. ii) Women and girls with disabilities are more empowered in reducing the VAW;

iii) Women and children with disabilities have improved their livelihoods and living standards.
